Finca Dos Marias
La Reforma, Guatemala

Finca Dos Marias is an estate coffee farm owned by the Asturias family located in southwestern Guatemala. Though the coffee is conventionally-grown (i.e., not "shade coffee"), this farm is unique in that it preserves several hundred acres of national-park-quality native cloud forest in the upper part of the property (left), which is home to numerous rare and endemic bird species, including Azure-rumped Tanager, Blue-throated Motmot, and Highland Guan.

Since the late 1990s, Cooper Ecological Monitoring has been surveying the birds of this forest reserve, with an eye toward understanding the effects of coffee cultivation on bird populations, and especially, how coffee fincas can act as forest reserves.

We encourage coffee drinkers to support Jones Coffee Roasters and other suppliers of Finca Dos Marias coffees, since without this farm protecting the forest reserve, this resource would be quickly lost.
